If you don’t know what MySpace is then you have clearly been asleep for the last five years. MySpace has become the norm in many industries, and many companies have a MySpace page instead of website, especially the entertainment community.

MySpace is one of the most popular social networking sites. As a MySpace member you have your won site, where you can display all your favorite things, photos, music and blogs. MySpace is owned but Fox Interactive Media, which is owned by News Corp. MySpace, makes millions of dollars in advertising revenue each year. MySpace is popular across all age groups and in most countries.

MySpace’s widespread popularity is what made its CEO’s recent comments a source for industry chatter. While being interviewed by Michael Arrington at TC50 Chris DeWolfe (MySpace’s CEO) was quoted stating that MySpace’s, “international strategy is different than our competitors. We look at advertising dollars, and 95% of all advertising revenues come form 9 countries.”

He went on to say that, “in those countries, we have 30% more unique users than our closest competitor in those 9 countries. So that is really our strategy.”

While DeWolfe didn’t state which countries he was talking about, many people have speculated that these nine countries include the USA, the UK and Canada. Others have suggested that Japan, France and Germany could also be in the nine.

So why if MySpace is popular all over the world, would they only concentrate on 9 countries?

Well when it comes to advertising on your website you really need to make sure that your advertising is effective. Companies that advertise online are very interested in making sure that their advertising actually gets to people.

When it comes to thinking about how to get some advertising dollars into your pocket, then you need to come up with some statistics. Companies want to know what kind of people visits your site, how long they stay, and how often they visit and what products they would actually click on.

The reason why MySpace and others like them have been able to make a substantial amount of money from websites is that they think about there advertises and make plans. So get into it, look at your stats and think about the kind of advertisers that you can directly target.
